Doty Island
Doty Island.
I was asked to think about a holy place that I felt connected to in a very sacred way, and it is Doty Island. In 2012, I had the opportunity to travel to this place pursing my research regarding GOM. Jonathan Carver described coming up to an island, just off of the Fox River. He described the plush vegetation filled with fruits and vegetables of every kind. There was a village of about 200 strong, and there was a queen: GOM.
I stood on Doty Island, in a park with willow trees, and read Carver's account. I believe I was standing near where GOM stood as Carver circled the island. Very humbling. The experience still carries me today. Grateful to GOM's life and legacy. Grateful that Carver recounted his visited with this extraordinary woman. Pinagigi!
